Milton Keynes Council to introduce free peak time bus travel

From Monday 6th July Milton Keynes Liberal Democrat Council is abolishing the 35 pence flat fare that holders of 60+ and disabled persons bus passes currently have to pay for travel before 9:30am on Mondays to Fridays within the borough. This means that 60+ and disabled person bus pass holders will be able to travel free at all times on local buses within the borough.

There are no changes to the rules for the England wide national concessionary travel scheme which entitles pass holders to free travel on local buses anywhere in England after 9:30am on Monday to Friday and at all times at weekends and on bank holidays.

Please note that free travel before 9:30am is only available within the borough of Milton Keynes for Milton Keynes pass holders - it will not be possible to ask the driver for a cross boundary ticket for free travel to destinations outside Milton Keynes until after 9:30am on Monday to Friday.

Pass holders will be able to use their existing passes to benefit from the free peak time travel - there is no need to obtain a new pass.

Cllr Sam Potts says: "This will allow older people from our villages to get out and about much more, and enjoy the very varied sights and sounds of Milton Keynes."
